Aerosol and Acrylic Paint on Wall

Following the ouster of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak in February of 2011, it seemed to me that many of his cronies, including some of his ministers and ex-ministers, were very quickly publicly disassociating themselves with him while simultaneously presenting themselves as “revolutionary figures” dispite public knowledge of their corruption.

Pictured here together with Mubarak is his longest serving (1987 to 2011) Minister of Culture; Farouk Hosny, his longest serving Minister of Defense; Hussein Tantawy, and ex-Foreign Minister Amr Mousa.

The inscription roughly translates to: “The people want the downfall of lovers of the regime.” (It rolls off the tongue much better in Arabic.)

It lasted 5 days before getting defaced.
