Cairo, EG + Seville, ES

Double-sided poster design for installation by artist Mahmoud Khaled at CAAC in Seville. Mahmoud wanted to merge two very contradicting icons into the same installation. First: Rainbow colors being the highly kitschified LGBT iconography of the west, and second: the Crescent Moon & Star as symbology known to represent the islamic faith and very much associated with the Middle East. The project aimed to investigate the kitschy and iconic dimensions of the two symbols, while visualizing a merger of both —somewhat shocking and perplexing upon first sight yet not entirely unheard of.
